Healthy eating and living a healthy lifestyle calls for some essential basics for you to stay healthy. Eating a healthy diet with the right essential nutrition is another part of your healthy lifestyle. Healthy eating is not about rigorous nutrition doctrines, remaining slim, or depriving yourself from the foods you love. Instead, it is all about feeling good, and keeping yourself healthy.

Living a healthy lifestyle can be accomplished by learning a few nutrition basics and applying them in a way that works for you.


Your body is over 70 percent water. Virtually all of the vital operations of your body require water. It is essential to keep it that way. By the time you reach for water because you are thirsty, it’s usually too late.

Always start your day by drinking a large glass of water or other fluid. During the day sip some water or fluid every half-hour or so.

You can also nibble on water rich fruits and veggies throughout the day. Most citrus fruits such as oranges, tangerines, and melons like cantaloupe, honeydew are great for this. And they have the additional benefit of supplying you with a lot of powerful nutrients.


Fiber is very important and has many benefits. Many of us do not have the minimum requirement of about 30 to 40 grams per day. This can easy be accomplish if you increase your intake of complex carbohydrates such as grains, cereals, nuts, fruits and vegetables.

Fiber also has the added benefit of absorbing some of the fat and cholesterol from your meal so that they are not entirely absorbed by your body.


Protein is vital for your body. Make sure to have some protein with every meal, especially breakfast. The best sources of protein are from egg whites, soybean milk or low fat milk, fish, chicken or any other meat.


Your body need fat as well. However, very little is needed. And, even if you are a vegetarian, you are most likely getting enough fat already.

The truth is that many of us need to cut down on saturated fats from animal sources from our diets. Obesity is a leading cause of cancer and other health problems.

You should focus on are certain fatty acids that many of us do not get enough of. Two great sources of fatty acids are from fish and flaxseeds. You can also take fish oil capsules as an alternative.


Carbohydrates have been given a bad repp, especially with the “high protein, low carb” crazes.

It is of import to note that there are two kinds of carbohydrates: simple and complex. Simple carbs come from processed foods and foods high in sugar such as donuts, pastries, or any other products made from white flour and processed sugar. Complex carbs come from natural sources such as whole grains, vegetables, most fruits or foods that have gone through minimal processing like wheat bread and other whole wheat products, brown rice, and so forth.

The fact is, your body needs carbohydrates for energy. Unfortunately, most of us fill it up with the bad carbs, that are bad for you. And, the results are pretty obvious.

The less refined the carbs are, the better they are for you. Brown is much better than white and usually have high fiber content as well – an added benefit.


Taking vitamins is not just an added benefit; it is required. Your body does not manufacture most vitamins, which is why we consume food to begin with, we need food to exist.

For most individuals, our diets do not provide adequate vitamins that are needed by our bodies to function normally. Eating a healthy diet with the right essential nutrition should be a part of your healthy lifestyle.
